Los Angeles County is known as a well-planned, metropolitan area. The city council of the incorporated city of Los Angeles, however, has designated the San Fernando Valley as a separate entity from the city of Los Angeles. This separation, which was approved in 1988, serves as a mechanism for preserving the area’s natural resources, as well as ensuring a low-incident rate for local residents.
The name “San Fernando Valley” is not a geographically accurate description of the region. Rather, the valley is known as the “Valley of the Sun” due to its consistent warm climate, resulting in abundant sunshine for most of the year. In terms of the climate, it is hot, and sunny in the mornings, but then cool and rainy in the afternoon. It is a season of transition, from lush vegetation in the valley floor to a dense forest in the mountains. Spring is the favorite time to visit, as the flowers start to bloom and the fruits of the orchards start to ripen.
The San Fernando Valley offers a number of outdoor activities. Several parks, golf courses, nature preserves, and recreation areas offer a wide range of outdoor pursuits. The most famous recreation area is CSun Park. Here you can enjoy nature walks, bike rides, hiking trails, nature studies and photography, picnic, and horseback riding. The serenity of CSun Park will give you an ideal setting to unwind.
San Fernando Valley has a strong cultural and educational presence. There are many excellent schools in the valley, as well as numerous professional organizations, like the Los Angeles School District and the Southern California School District. A large portion of the valley lies within the Angeles city limits, and there are over two hundred schools within the city proper. Almost all of the schools are exclusive, and many are topnotch. This means that a child going to school in the San Fernando Valley will have the best educational opportunities in the entire city.
